Sam Martyn

The Dan Thomas Maritime & Traditional Stage, 16.30 – 17.00

Sam is a folk singer, musician and artist originally from Hull, but now living in Holderness.

She plays piano, low and high whistle, and harmonium, and in the past 10 years she’s been in the folk bands Beggar’s Bridge and Fiddlers Elbow, and still plays in the White Horse Ceilidh Band.

She’s also part of a new duo with Hull multi-instrumentalist and early music specialist Wolfy O’Hare.

Recent projects include singing and playing in Reg Meuross’s 12 Silk Handkerchiefs song cycle, which went on an Arts Council England-funded tour of England in September 2019. It has also been performed at Whitby’s Musicport festival and most recently on the Cutty Sark in Greenwich in May 2024.

Her alter-ego being an insanely busy publisher and local newspaper editor, it’s a wonder she ever gets chance to perform at all…

The Topic Folk Club, Bradford: The vocals of Sam Martyn were a revelation – a true folk voice reminiscent of giants such as Maddy Prior and Maggie Boyle
