Paul & Liz Davenport
The Dan Thomas Maritime & Traditional Stage, Saturday, 17.15 – 18.00
Paul & Liz Davenport live in South Yorkshire but were both born in the city of Hull on the banks of the Humber estuary.
Their family roots spread along the east of the country from the Tyne to the Broads. Both of their families carry several generations of traditional singing and music making.
Paul & Liz sing songs that rise, both from their roots and from their personal experiences. Their songs are drawn either from extensive research into the tradition or springing from Paul’s ever-fertile pen.
Their voices create a sound that gives a striking vitality to their musical story-telling, underpinned by Paul and Liz’s unusual vocal style. Their songs are now to be found in the repertoires of some very well-known performers both in UK as well as further afield.
Paul & Liz have appeared regularly at all of the major festivals in the UK and, in 2011 were invited to give a recital at the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium in Australia.
fRoots: As singers they’re blessed with singular, sturdy and confident voices; they also possess a strong awareness of their role as song-carriers, being both steeped in the tradition and well versed in contemporary songwriting within the tradition.
